Block 5, Diptych
During time spent photographing these hospitals, I would ask people for their special thoughts or places in the hospital that they felt were significant. Walking along the spacious corridor leading to the maternity wing I was told this had a special serenity and atmosphere which engulfed this area. It was as if you instinctively new the area of the hospital you were entering. My Block 5 Diptych tries to evoke this atmosphere. |
Suffolk Puff
Histology Patchwork
A workshop participant invited me to King George's Histology unit, an experience both illuminating and visually stimulating. I was shown dyed cellular pathology images which reminded me of textiles from different parts of the world. By chance, I had recently been given a Suffolk Puff patchwork quilt bought for me by my daughter in a charity shop in New York. The material used for this quilt very much reminded me of these histopathology images and my artwork carries the traces of both influences. |
