Moss Embryo 1
While hunting antiques in in the town of Pepworth, I visited a shop selling French furniture and bric a brac. Prominently on display were large balls of moss. Intrigued by these sculptured objects, set around wire, I asked the owner why she had made them, mentioning, in passing, that I was working as an artist in residence at an IVF clinic and these objects had gelled with my own ideas. What followed was a few moments of embarrassed silence. She then informed me, somewhat tearfully, that she had herself been successfully treated by IVF and, while pregnant, had obsessively constructed the moss balls as her tummy grew larger. |
